Dealing With Criticism

Wow, this is a tough one. People in general do not always like feedback nor being evaluated. Critical comments are at times seen as personal attacks, but is this true? We once had a coach here at Far Post who would structure his “criticism” like this – “I have a GIFT for you!” In Holland, one of our beloved coaches (Leo) is a firm believer in direct and immediate feedback, which oftentimes is hard to take. But we train players prior to traveling to understand what he is trying to do. My father once said to me, “When your coach is criticizing you, you should be happy because they are noticing you and doing this to make you better – What you need to be worried about is when they say nothing…” Hope this helps many of you that struggle with this.
