Sam Alden

U19 Director of Coaching

Sam, a native of Essex, VT, currently lives in Burlington and is in his 9th year on staff with the club.

Sam started with Essex United before moving to Far Post at the age of 14, where he continued to play for 4 years. Sam also played for Essex High School for 4 years, including 2 years on varsity.

Sam then went to Hobart College in Geneva, NY, where he started and captained the Club Soccer program for 4 years. It was these experiences in leadership and management that helped him find his passion for coaching. While studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark, Sam played for Øresund Klubfodbold. Sam graduated cum laude in 2011 with a double major in International Relations and Public Policy Studies.

Upon graduation, Sam returned home to Vermont where he started coaching Far Post summer camps before taking over the Essex Middle School soccer program and Far Post U12 Boys Premier team. After serving the club in a number of different capacities in his first year, Sam was made the Indoor League Manager before absorbing a number of administrative and strategic duties in a new position as Director of Operations.

Starting Fall 2019, Sam will be attending UVM full time where he will be working on his MBA. He will be significantly scaling back his work with the club, where he will remain an advisor and U19 Director of Coaching.

Sam is a die-hard Liverpool fan and enjoys skiing, biking, and traveling in his time off. He holds his USSF D License and NSCAA National Diploma.
